As a sister ship to MS Fridtjof Nansen and named after the legendary polar pioneer, MS Roald Amundsen has been delivering world-class, nature-based adventures to destinations such as Alaska and Antarctica since 2019. Life onboard balances high-tech discovery with premium comfort, featuring a state-of-the-art Science Centre and expert team to enrich your journey alongside a selection of exquisite restaurants and wellness facilities. Whether you are relaxing in the welcoming lounges or exploring remote landscapes, this vessel offers a sophisticated basecamp for travellers seeking a truly memorable and educational expedition.
On board experience
The heart of the MS Roald Amundsen is the Amundsen Science Centre, an interactive edutainment hub packed with touchscreens, microscopes, and research equipment. Here, guests and the Expedition Team collaborate on Citizen Science projects, contributing real-world data to global research. A striking 57-foot LED screen—the tallest at sea—dominates the atrium, broadcasting high-definition nature scenes. Throughout the ship, the atmosphere is social and enriching, with a resident photographer to help you master your camera and regular updates on wildlife sightings to ensure you catch every whale breach or penguin colony.
On board accommodation
Every cabin on the MS Roald Amundsen is outside-facing, ensuring guests never lose touch with the landscape. The design focuses on "hygge" with natural finishes, en-suite bathrooms, and modern amenities. The accommodation is generally divided into three main categories: Polar Outside, Arctic Superior, and Expedition Suites. Half of all cabins feature private balconies, while select aft suites include their own private outdoor hot tubs.
Dining
With three distinct restaurants, the ship offers a variety of culinary experiences. Aune is the main dining room, offering extensive breakfast and lunch buffets with open seating. For a more casual and social atmosphere, Fredheim serves international street food and "comfort" snacks. Finally, Lindstrøm provides an exclusive fine-dining experience named after the favourite chef of the early polar heroes, focusing on premium Norwegian and global flavours (complimentary for suite guests).
Entertainment
The focus is on "edutainment" rather than cabaret. The Explorer Lounge & Bar offers 270-degree views through floor-to-ceiling windows, serving as the perfect spot for reflection or a cocktail from the curated menu. Enrichment is delivered via the high-tech lecture halls, where the Expedition Team shares expertise on glaciology, history, and biology. For active relaxation, guests can enjoy the outdoor observation deck, which wraps around the bow for unparalleled viewing.
Wellness
The wellness facilities are extensive, featuring a large gym, an outdoor gym and running track, and a panoramic sauna. One of the ship's most iconic features is the aft infinity pool, flanked by two hot tubs and a pool bar, allowing you to soak in heated water while watching the icebergs of Antarctica or the coastlines of Alaska drift by.
